During an unprecedented historical event in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic led to a global lockdown, confining most people to their homes for at least two months. The French government, in an effort to encourage people to combat the virus, proposed the slogan 'Restons chez vous', which translates to 'Please stay at home' in English.

Summary

The balconies of Paris story

Hence, numerous stories unfolded on the balconies of Paris, spaces of engagement and diversity, which bore witness to a variety of scenes: remote work, children sheltering with their parents, marathons taking place on the balcony, support given to the elderly, and the confounding state of confinement.

Illustration stories

Each balcony tells a story—while people couldn’t leave their homes, daily life unfolded with energy and creativity. Despite isolation, the building became a shared canvas of resilience, with neighbors staying connected through small routines, gestures, and moments of everyday life.

The “Restons chez nous” series captures these snapshots from lockdown—each window revealing a different scene, together forming a collective portrait of how residents adapted during confinement.

Balcony in Bloom

During lockdown, the balcony became the liveliest part of the home. Plants thrived in the sunlight, and people found a small escape in nature—pulling up a chair to breathe in fresh air and soak up a bit of calm.

Remote Work and Children

In families with children, working from home often means sharing every moment. Meetings blur with playtime as little ones seek attention — so sometimes, the only solution is to invite them to “work” alongside you.

New Nests in the City

As birds and animals reclaimed quieter urban spaces, they built new homes and routines—reminding us that life adapts, thrives, and continues. Just like them, people found new ways to live with purpose and energy.
